United States Consul General Host Reception In Honor Of The Headies
The United States Consulate Lagos, hosted a reception to in honour of the 16th Annual Headies Music Awards, holding for the second time outside the shores of Nigeria, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA later this year. The reception was held at the U.S. Consul General’s Lagos residence, Ikoyi on the 28th of July 2023.
The U.S. government is committed to strengthening the cultural ties between it and Nigeria through music, arts, film, cultural heritage, professional and educational exchanges. Hence, the decision to partner with the Headies, often referred to as the “Global awards for Afrobeats”.
The Headies made its out-of-Africa debut in September 2022, becoming the first African awards show to be held in the US. The 16th edition of the Headies will also be held in the US, at a date and venue to be announced by the organisers soon.
The Executive Producer of the Headies Awards, Ayo Animashaun, stressed the need to continually push our talents and culture to the global stage, especially at a time when Nigerian music is increasingly popular in the United States and around the world.
A major highlight of the reception was the revelation that the winner of the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award category will become the proud owner of a state of the art solar-powered two-bedroom apartment at the exclusive Citadel Views Estate, Lagos, courtesy of Nedcomoak Limited, and its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kenedy Okonkwo.
Guests at the reception included music industry representatives and a cohort of Nigeria’s key business, political, media and cultural leaders.
